Creative Hub – Winchester, UK
stephanie August 31st, 2010
Creative Hub is a social enterprise based in the city of Winchester working with young people aged 14-21 years. Through regular sessions at their “Youth Café” and in workshops, Creative Hub aims to build young people’s aspirations, creativity, confidence, leadership and entrepreneurial skills through the visual arts music, and dance and arts events. They engage with young people in the promotion and management of their projects, and build opportunities for young people to work with creative professionals, improve their knowledge of the cultural sector and achieve accredited Arts Awards and a portfolio of achievements.
Most young people engaged in the project come from disadvantaged economic backgrounds. Activities include piano lessons, writing music and lyrics, using recording equipment, recording CDs, designing T-shirts, and working backstage at the local theatre. Creative Hub facilitates young people to set up and run community mural projects and organise arts, dance and musical events and exhibitions.
Young People are at the heart of decision making, volunteering and helping to run the project.
